This print is titled Alta Faye after my grandmother. She, along with my mom, are a large part of what inspired my love for clothing and my personal style. Alta Faye Lilly graduated in 1958 with a bachelors degree in Fashion and Merchandising. She went on to make all of her daughters’ dresses for school dances, and I remember there were always various sewing materials, including patterns such as the ones in my print, around the house when I would visit as a child. Additionally, my grandma raised my mom on the classic Hollywood movies that she herself grew up with, and my mom in turn raised me on them. I remember fondly watching such beautiful, captivating, and glamorous ladies on the screen, and being particularly fascinated by Audrey Hepburn. The image of her in this print is from the movie “Funny Face,” a film which centers on fashion and has numerous iconic looks. I felt she was a fitting inclusion for this print as a tribute to my grandmother. I also included bits of text from fabric swatch notecards my grandmother had saved from when she was in college, notating the type of fabric, the price, and any notable features.
